Samburu, Kenya   East African Wildlife   In Search Of Lemurs
The Samburu are an ethnic group from north-central Kenya. They are closely related to the Maasai and both are semi nomadic people who herd mainly cattle sheep and goats. The men adorn themselves with necklaces, bracelets and anklets and practice polygamous marriage.   October sees the end of the dry season in East Africa. The eastern Serengeti Plain becomes a corridor for wildlife moving between Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania and the Masai Mara in Kenya. Life is good for all throughout this period.   Nestled in the hills around the Namorana River 40,000 hectares of misty cloud forest have become home to many species of Lemur. The Parc National De Ranomafana was set up in 1986 to protect the rare Golden Bamboo Lemur and the Greater Bamboo Lemur.
